Gladstone Village Hall Wedding Photographer | Emily + Henry

confetti at cheshire village hall wedding

I’d been excited to photograph Emily and Henry’s wedding ever since they first got in touch, about a year before. They booked me while they were travelling around Europe in their trusty customised camper van, ‘Vandiamo’, which Henry arrived in for the ceremony.

A relaxed ceremony at Gladstone Village Hall

Emily and Henry had clearly put a lot of thought into the décor at Gladstone Village Hall, with personal touches throughout. As guests arrived, many were drawn to a wall of photos showing the adventures Emily and Henry had shared with friends and family over the years.

As guests took their seats and the music started, Henry’s reaction to seeing Emily walk down the aisle with her mum and dad was hard to miss. After the ceremony, everyone made their way over to the Cricket Club bar before heading onto the lawn for the confetti line.

A laid-back outdoor wedding reception

Guests grabbed handfuls of dried flower confetti and lined up by the edge of the cricket pitch before Emily and Henry made their way through, clearly enjoying every second of it. Afterwards it was time for drinks and canapés, with guests chatting and making the most of the sunshine on the lawn.

Once family and group photos were done, guests headed back to the Village Hall, which had been transformed for the wedding breakfast. Tables were named after mountains, a little nod to Emily and Henry’s love of skiing and the time they spent working together as ski instructors. While guests got settled, we went for a short walk nearby to capture a few relaxed photos together, with minimal posing.

A fun DIY wedding party

Groomsman Jack had the honour of announcing Emily and Henry into the room to a huge round of applause, followed by paella and speeches from Emily’s parents, best man George, bridesmaids Elle and Catherine, and the couple themselves. There were plenty of laughs and a few tears too.

As the room was turned around once again, guests headed back to the Cricket Club bar for baklava and a few more drinks before the ceilidh kicked off. I always love photographing a ceilidh, they’re a great way of keeping the energy up and getting everyone involved.

It was a real pleasure to be there and capture Emily and Henry’s day. Thanks so much for having me.

We both shed a tear (or two…) when we received our photos. They capture so many of the moments that have stuck with us from the day – full of joy and laughter, which is exactly what we wanted.

Planning a village hall wedding?

If you’re thinking about having a village hall wedding, I’m a big fan. There’s something really charming about them, and many are flooded with great natural light. They’re also a great blank canvas, giving you the freedom to shape the day around what actually matters to you.

Many village halls also come with outdoor space and, in some cases, a bar, which really helps the flow of the day. You might need to get a few people in to help with setup, but that’s often a good icebreaker. You can read more about finding the right venue for your day here.

And if you’re looking for a photographer to capture your wedding as it unfolds, feel free to get in touch. I’d love to hear more about your plans.
